You Think Twitter Can Ruin Relationships?

I go through a comment today to a blog post about Twitter in which someone said they believed Twitter and websites like it are damaging society. I thought this was a rather rough statement although I could completely agree with a few of the disadvantages to Twitter. My argument is that I do not believe Twitter or other social networking sites are triggering the trouble. If there joins fact, any kind of damage of our society, it is taking place within the culture and not because of a social media platform. This platform of social media might make the problem much more “in your face” compared to it may otherwise be but it’s not stemming the issues for us who buy Twitter followers.

While there will certainly always be some that concur with websites like Twitter and others that are considerably opposed, I think the actual lesson to discover below is that we don’t utilize social media as a scapegoat for the issues that exist in our culture.

By criticizing it on Twitter, we’re not taking obligation for what our generation has come to be. We are criticizing a networking website that 100% counts on individuals who utilize it to stay afloat. It is those members that make it exactly what it is. Without individuals, there would be no Twitter. As a result, responsible the problems of culture on a social networking website as opposed to on the social aspect- the people who use it- appears naive, prejudiced and damaged. I won’t differ that websites like Twitter could sometimes be encouraging bad societal behavior that already exists yet I do not cast the blame on a site. This habits would certainly already exist with or without Twitter.
